ျမန္မာစကားပံုမ်ား


မေန႔က စိတ္ကူးတည့္ရာ စာအုပ္ေတြ ဖတ္ရင္း ေမလွေက်ာ္(ပညာေရး) ေရးသားထားတဲ့ ‘စကားပံုရုပ္စံု’ ကို ဖတ္ခဲ့မိတယ္။ ဖတ္ၿပီးတဲ့အခါမွာေတာ့ စာဖတ္သူမ်ား ဖတ္ေစလိုတဲ့ ဆႏၵနဲ႔႔  ပို႔စ္ေလးတစ္ခုအျဖစ္ တင္ေပး လိုက္တယ္ေနာ္။ ျမန္မာစကားပံုေတြကိုေတာ့ အားလံုးလိုလိုသိရွိၿပီး ျဖစ္ေပမယ့္ နီးစပ္တဲ့ စကားပံုေလးေတြပါ ထည့္ထားတာမုိ႔ အခ်ိန္ရရင္ ဖတ္ၾကည့္ေစလိုပါတယ္။
၁။ ကတြတ္ေပါက္က ဗ်ိဳင္းေစာင့္
     A paddy bird watching a water outlet.

၂။ ကံထမ္းလာတာမျမင္ရ လွံထမ္းလာတာသာျမင္ရ
     Fate (karma) is unforeseen.

၃။ ကိုင္းကြ်န္းမွီ ကြ်န္းကိုင္းမွီ
     ( ယုန္အက်ိဳးေတာသိ၊ ေတာအက်ိဳးယံုသိ)
     Grass depends on the island the island on the grass. (Inter dependent)

၄။ က်ားႀကီး ေျခရာႀကီး
     (ေရျမင့္လွ်င္ ၾကာျမင့္)
     The bigger the tiger the pug marks.
     The more money a person gets the money expenses he incurs.

၅။ ကြ်ဲပါး ေစာင္းတီး
     (နပင္းကို ပေလြမႈတ္ျပ)
     To cast pearls before swine.
     To play great music to the vulgar people.
     Playing the harp (or) Flute before the buffalo.

၆။ ေၾကာင္မရွိ ႂကြက္ျမဴး
     (ေၾကာင္မရွိ ႂကြက္ထ)
     When the cats are away the rats will play.

၇။ ႂကြက္မႏိုင္ က်ီမီးရႈိ႕
     Setting fire to the granary because one cannot beat the mice.

၈။ ခလုတ္ထိမွ အမိတ
     (လူမိုက္ေနာက္မွ သံေဝရ)
     After striking one’s foot against an obstacle one longs for his mother.

၉။ ေခါင္းတစ္လံုးႏွင့္ ေရအိုးႏွစ္လံုးမရြက္ႏိုင္
     To bite off more than one can chew.
     Teaching that it is to attempt the impossible.
     No man can serve two masters.

၁၀။ ငုပ္မိသဲတိုင္ တက္ႏိုင္ဖ်ားေရာက္
     If you dive down, go on till you reach the sand if you can climb up go on until you reach the top.
     Never do things by halves.
     Patience and perseverance will conquer mountains.

၁၁။ စိန္နားကပ္ေရာင္ေၾကာင့္ ပါးေျပာင္
     Cheeks shining beacause of diamond earrings.

၁၂။ ဆရာကာျပန္ အာေခါင္လွံစူး
     Try to surpass your teacher you became mad or will be danger.
     He who turns against his teacher, his palate is pierced by a spear.

၁၃။ ဆင္က်ီစားရာ ဆိတ္မခံသာ
     (ဆင္မွာေသးကြက္ ပရြက္ဆိတ္ပင္လယ္)
     (ေဆးသမားမေထာင္းသာ လူနာမခံခ်ိ)
     A goat can not be borne by the teasing of elephant.

၁၄။ တံငါနားနီးတံငါ မုဆိုးနားနီးမုဆိုး
     Near a fisherman one is a fisherman , one hunter a hunter.
     A man is known by a company he keep.

၁၅။ တစ္ေန႔တစ္လံ ပုဂံ ဘယ္ေရြ႕မလဲ
     One day six feet, where will Pagan move?
     Rome was not built in a day.

၁၆။ ေတာင္ႀကီး ဖဝါးေအာက္
     A big mountain under its feet.

၁၇။ ေတာင္းမွာအကြပ္ လူမွာအဝတ္
     With a basket the binding, with a man his clothes.

၁၈။ ထန္းရည္မူး ကြ်ဲခိုးေပၚ
     (တစ္သက္လံုး ဖုံးသမွ် ကုန္းလိုက္မွေပၚ)
     Intoxicant loosens one’s tongue.
     In wine, there is truth.

၁၉။ ထန္းသီးေႂကြခိုက္ က်ီးနင္းလိုက္
     Just as the palm-nut fell, the crow stepped on it.

၂၀။ ႏြားကြဲ က်ားကိုက္
     Of the cattle are scattered the tiger seizes them.
     Unity is strength.
     United we stand, divided we fall.

၂၁။ ပိုးသာကုန္ ေမာင္ပံုေစာင္းမတတ္
     (ေပကုန္၍ စာမက်)
     (ခရီးတြင္လို႔ ရြာစဥ္မသိ)
     The silk is all used up, Mg Pon never learns to play the harp.

၂၂။ ပညာရဲရင့္ ပြဲလယ္တင့္
     Knowledge is power.

၂၃။ ပညာေရႊအိုး လူမခိုး
     Nobody could rob you of your knowledge coffer.

၂၄။ ဖြတ္ထြက္မွ ေတာင္ပို႔မွန္းသိ

     (သစ္ငုတ္ျမင့္တံု ျမက္ျမင့္တံု)
     (ေရစီးတစ္ခါ ေရသာတစ္လွည့္)
     (ဗံုလံုတစ္လွည့္ ငါးပ်ံတစ္လွည့္)
     Strong current one moment, slack water the next.
     Sometimes poor, sometimes rich, hard time and easy time.

၂၉။ မ်က္ႏွာႀကီးရာ ဟင္းဖတ္ပါ
     Pieces of curry meat go to the man of high position.

၃၀။ ေႁမြေပြး ခါးပိုက္ပိုက္
     (သူခိုး ေရႊတိုက္စိုးခန္႔)
     Keeping a viper in your waist pockets.
     Cherishing a viper in one’s bosom.

၃၁။ ယံုေထာင္ ေၾကာင္မိ
     A cat in caught in the hare’s trap.

၃၂။ ေယာက္်ားေဖာင္စီး မိန္းမမီးေန
     It is very dangerous for a woman to be in childbed, for a man to go a raft.

၃၃။ ေရနစ္သူ ဝါးကူလုိ႔ထိုး
     Pushing the drowning man , still further down with a bamboo.
     Pour not water on a drowned mouse.

၃၄။ လယ္ထြန္သြား ႏြားေမ့
     Going to plough, and forgetting the cattle.

၃၅။ သားေရေပၚအိပ္ သားေရနားစား
     To bite the hand that feeds it.

၃၆။ သစ္တစ္ပင္ေကာင္း ငွက္တစ္ေသာင္းနားႏိုင္
     A good tree can lodge ten thousand birds.

၃၇။ သူခိုးေျပးမွ ထိုးကြင္းထ
     (မိုးလြန္မွ ထြန္ခ်)
     (ေနဝင္မွ ပ်ိဳးလွန္း)
     (က်ားေသမွ လူစြမ္းေကာင္းေပၚ)
     Only when the thief has run away , do the tattoo spots show the power.

၃၈။ ေဟာင္လြန္းသည့္ေခြး လူမေလး
     Men pay no heed to a dog that is always barking.
     Barking dogs seldom bite.

၃၉။ အဆိပ္ပင္ ေရေလာင္း
     Don’t pour water on poisonous plants.

၄၀။ အတုျမင္ အတတ္သင္
     By imitation , one can learn to do.

၄၁။ အမိႈက္ကစ ျပာသာဒ္မီးေလာင္
     Starting from the rubbish, it burnt the pyathat (a mansion)
     Dangerous fire begins in the bed straw.

၄၂။ အရိပ္ေနေန အခက္ခ်ိဳးခ်ိဳး
     (သားေရေပၚအိပ္ သားေရနားစား)
     Taking shelter in the shade breaking off branches

၄၃။ အေရးႀကီး ေသြးနီးရာ
     (လက္သည္းဆိတ္ လက္ထိပ္နာ)
     In time of test , the family is the best.
     Blood is thicker than water.

၄၄။ အလိမၼာ စာမွာရွိ
     Reading makes a full man.

၄၅။ အလိုႀကီး အရနည္း
     Great Desire Obtains Little.
     Grasp all. Lost all.
     Kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.
     Those who want too much lose all.

၄၆။ အသီးတစ္ရာ အညွာတစ္ခု
     A hundred fruits are one stem.

၄၇။ အိတ္ေပါက္ႏွင့္ ဖားေကာက္
     Picking up frogs with perforated bag.
     An industrious husband and a spendthrift wife.

၄၈။ စိုင္ေကာ္လို႔ ခ်ံဳေပၚေရာက္
     Because the wild ox tossed him he arrived on the bush.
     Blessing in disguise.
